Soft vs Hard Hyperbaric Chambers: Pressure Is Only Part of the Story

A soft or hard shell does not tell you everything about a hyperbaric session. The meaningful comparison includes operating pressure, breathing gas, delivery system, intended use and clinical supervision.

The comparison that matters

ParameterQuestion to ask
PressureWhat pressure will this session reach, in ATA?
Breathing gasWhat oxygen concentration is delivered to the user?
InterfaceIs gas delivered through a mask, hood or another system?
DurationHow long is spent at pressure, excluding compression and decompression?
PurposeWhat indication or goal is being addressed?
SupervisionWho assesses, monitors and responds to problems?

ATA refers to absolute pressure. It is not an oxygen percentage. Likewise, a source labelled with a high oxygen concentration does not by itself establish the concentration inhaled through a particular interface.

Mild exposure is not automatically medical HBOT

The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society's indications guidance distinguishes established hyperbaric treatment from mild-pressure offerings and cautions against assuming clinical effectiveness for those offerings.

A study using particular medical equipment and protocols cannot be applied to a different chamber simply because both businesses use the term HBOT.

Is higher pressure better?

Not as a general rule. A clinician selects treatment parameters for a particular indication and patient. Raising pressure to chase a stronger feeling is not a sound way to choose care.

A more expensive chamber also does not make an unsupported wellness claim more convincing. Ask for evidence that matches the proposed purpose and exposure.

Choosing in Bangkok

If you are considering treatment for a medical problem, begin with a qualified hyperbaric team. For a wellness offer, request a plain-language description of what is and is not established.

Compare Bangkok HBOT options and use the provider checklist before making a financial commitment. The goal is to understand the actual service, not to select a winner based on its shell.

Frequently asked questions

Is a soft chamber the same as hospital HBOT?

Not automatically. Compare the full exposure and clinical setting rather than the name.

Does 1.5 ATA mean 100% oxygen?

No. Pressure and oxygen concentration describe different parameters.

Is 2 ATA always better than 1.5 ATA?

No. Appropriateness depends on the indication and individual treatment plan.

Does a hard chamber prove the provider is qualified?

No. Equipment is only one part of a service; assessment, training, maintenance and supervision also matter.
